Islamabad: A serious case of alleged medical negligence has surfaced at PIMS Hospital, where a female patient lost her life after doctors reportedly conducted a biopsy on her liver instead of her lungs.
The deceased patient, Abida Parveen, belonged to Dadyal, Azad Kashmir, and was suffering from a lung-related illness. She was admitted to the Pulmonology Department of PIMS on December 9. The Head of the Pulmonology Department, Dr. Muhammad Israr, decided to perform a lung biopsy, which was carried out on December 16.
However, only a few hours after the procedure, the patient passed away at the hospital. The biopsy report later received from Shaukat Khanum Laboratory revealed a shocking fact: the tissue sample taken during the procedure was from the liver, not the lungs.
Following the report, the patient’s family filed a formal complaint with the Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority (IHRA). In their application, they held Dr. Muhammad Israr, Dr. Haroon Ashraf Khan, and other doctors and staff present in the procedure room responsible for the incident.
The family also submitted hospital slips and laboratory reports as evidence. Meanwhile, officials of the Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority have initiated immediate action and started an investigation into the matter.
