Deadliest Israeli Strikes Hit Lebanon: Over 250 Killed

Lebanon witnessed one of the deadliest days of violence on Wednesday, as Israeli airstrikes targeted multiple areas across the country, resulting in heavy casualties and widespread destruction.According to Lebanon’s state news agency, the National News Agency, more than 180 people were killed in Israeli attacks carried out throughout the day. The Israeli Defense Forces launched what has been described as one of the most intense waves of strikes so far, hitting the capital Beirut, southern regions, and several other parts of the country. Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported that Wednesday recorded the highest number of casualties since the recent escalation began. Initial figures cited 182 people killed and 890 injured. However, in a separate statement, the Lebanese Civil Defense Agency provided higher figures, stating that 254 people had been killed and 1,165 injured. The scale of the attacks, particularly in densely populated areas, has raised serious international concern. The International Committee of the Red Cross expressed deep alarm over the devastating strikes and the significant loss of life and damage reported across Lebanon. Meanwhile, human rights organization Amnesty International called on Israel to fulfil its obligations under international humanitarian law and to ensure the protection of civilians amid the ongoing conflict. In a related development, it is important to note that just a day earlier, the United States and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire, raising questions about the broader regional dynamics following this sudden escalation in Lebanon.
