Political Zoo Election Symbols Take Quirky Turn

KARACHI: As PTI ‘independent’ candidates battle it out for independent election symbols with the ECP, there are 150 political parties that were lucky enough to get unified party symbols from the ECP.

Starting with the usual suspects, sher (tiger) has comfortably found its place with the PML-N. The PPPP will contest the elections with its traditional arrow (teer) symbol. The PTI as we know is now symbol-less and its nominees will now be contesting as independent candidates on different symbols although its splinter group — the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Nazriati) — will be playing as a ‘batsman’.

New kid on the block Jehangir Tareen’s Istekham-e-Pakistan Tehreek will be heading into the elections with the ‘eagle’ as its symbol. The Awami National Party will hold on to its ‘lantern symbol’ for the 2024 elections while the Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Pakistan still holds the ‘book’ symbol. The MQM-Pakistan, as in the past, will be flying its ‘kite’ during its election campaigns to get people to vote for them as Afaq Ahmed-led Mohajir Qaumi Movement Pakistan has held on to its ‘candle’. The ‘scale of justice’ too is back with the Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan.

In the interim, the TLP has held its ‘crane’ image, and the Balochistan Public Party will employ its ‘hatchet’ like last time. The Mohsin Dawar-drove Public Vote based Development will enter the political race field with the ‘mountain’ image as another new party, the Haqooq Khalq Party, is good to go to show up during the decisions with its ‘amplifier’ image.

With the typical and more standard images dispensed to the typical and more standard gatherings, the really intriguing piece of the ECP’s image list accompanies a few less popular gatherings which have accepted their reasonable portion of idiosyncratic images. Overlooking the regrettable underlying meaning connected to the crocodile, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Such will challenge its decisions with the ‘crocodile’ image while a party called Continue on Pakistan will stick its neck out on Final voting day as an ‘ostrich’.

In a transition to show that the pen is mightier than the blade, the Barabri Party Pakistan will challenge decisions with the ‘pen’ — an image that has not been embraced by any more established party, an assertion erring on our gatherings’ interest with power as opposed to mind. With an eye on common sense, the Tehreek-e Ahl-e-Sunnat Pakistan is offering our ‘frail’ citizens a ‘generator’.

All discussions of decreasing firearm viciousness appears to be ridiculous as somewhere around two gatherings have been granted weapon-related images: the Pakistan Muslim Association (KQK) will enter the political race field with the ‘firearm’ as its image while the Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Pakistan has agreed to the ‘pistol’.

For some odd reason, the Pakistan Aman Tehreek has dumped the bird and gone with the ‘rocket’. The Pakistan Awami Raj will challenge utilizing the ‘jharoo’ (brush) image, most likely alluding to cleaning the wreck the nation is in.

A portion of the leftover gatherings have figured out how to get the accompanying images: the Pak Association: ‘apple’; the Pasban Progressive faction: ‘expands’; the Tehreek-e-Azmat-e-Pakistan: ‘crate’; the main Vote based Front: ‘chime’; the All Pakistan Muslim Association (Jinnah): ‘bike’.
