PM Declares Farmers As Top Priority, Directs Plan To Boost Agricultural Exports

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared farmers’ prosperity as the government’s top priority and directed the formulation of a comprehensive plan to increase agricultural exports. He emphasized that reforming the agriculture sector and introducing farmers to modern global practices are key government priorities.

In a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister with a working group of private sector experts, he said the federal government, in coordination with provincial governments, is taking concrete steps to develop agriculture. Measures include providing quality seeds, timely fertilizers, and necessary medicines to prevent crop diseases to increase per-acre yields.

The Prime Minister also directed policy measures to enhance processing of agricultural commodities, boost exports of fisheries and fruits, and develop palm oil production along the coastal belt.

He noted that recently, 1,000 Pakistani students were sent to China for training in modern agricultural technologies. Investments in research are being made to increase yields per acre using available resources, demonstrating Pakistan’s potential in agricultural development.

The working group presented a detailed report covering challenges in the agriculture sector and recommendations for short- and long-term plans, including rabi and kharif crops, horticulture, livestock, dairy, and processing of agricultural products, along with comparative analysis at regional and global levels.

The Prime Minister appreciated the briefing and instructed the preparation of an actionable, effective, and comprehensive roadmap to incorporate the recommendations into government reforms.
