Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza held a farewell meeting with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday. During the meeting, the Prime Minister commended General Mirza’s professional skills, services, and long-standing dedication to the nation.
General Sahir Shamshad Mirza will retire on November 27, 2025, upon completing his term. He will be the 18th and last Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan Armed Forces, as the post has been abolished under the 27th constitutional amendment, and no new chairman will be appointed in the future.
General Mirza served in this key position for three years, while the longest-serving chairman was late General Iqbal Khan, who held the post for three years and 344 days.
Pakistan’s first CJCSC was General Muhammad Sharif, appointed by then-Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto on March 1, 1976. Other notable service members include Admiral Muhammad Sharif, Admiral Iftikhar Ahmed Sirohi (Navy), and Air Chief Marshal Farooq Feroze Khan (PAF), who served as CJCSC.
Following the 27th amendment, the CJCSC post has been abolished. Field Marshal General Asim Munir will assume the new position of Chief of Defence Forces, considered a significant and strategic post for Pakistan’s military leadership.
The Prime Minister stated that General Mirza exhibited excellent vision, leadership, and professional expertise during his tenure, which will always be remembered.
