Sindh Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has announced the launch of a grand operation against riverine dacoits (Katcha area criminals), stating that the operation has formally begun from today and will continue until complete elimination of criminal elements.
Talking to media after presiding over a law and order review meeting in Sukkur, the Interior Minister said that dacoits who voluntarily surrender their weapons and hand themselves over to the authorities will be given one opportunity to return to a peaceful life. However, those who resist and challenge the writ of the state will face strict and decisive action.
He praised the professional performance of Sindh Police and said that coordinated and intelligence-based operations are underway in both riverine (Katcha) and settled (Pakka) areas. Criminal hideouts are being dismantled and facilitators are also being brought to justice using modern technology and intelligence support.
Responding to a question regarding the involvement of the army, the Interior Minister clarified that there is currently no need for military deployment, as Sindh Police, along with Rangers, is fully capable of dealing with the situation.
He reiterated that the protection of citizens’ lives and property remains the government’s top priority and no leniency will be shown towards elements disrupting peace.
