The government has announced strict action against fraud in property files, plots, villas, and apartments amid rising concerns over scams in the real estate sector. Following directives from the Prime Minister, a high-level committee has been formed to ensure transparency, investigate tax evasion, and safeguard investors’ rights while reviewing the legal status of real estate transactions.
The committee will be chaired by the Federal Minister for Law and Justice and will include the Chairman of FBR, senior members from all provinces, a NAB representative, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, and a representative from the Association of Builders & Developers (ABAD). FBR will provide secretarial support.
The committee will review operational procedures of the file system, investigate alleged fraud by developers, check for duplicate or forged files, and address repeated sale of the same property. It will also analyze the impact of the sector on federal and provincial revenue.
Recommendations for legal amendments will be made to bring property file transactions under a clear and transparent framework, ensuring proper tax collection and legal protection for investors. The committee has been directed to submit its report within one month.
This initiative comes after revelations of a major housing scandal in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, where more than 90,000 plots were allegedly sold without land, generating billions in revenue.
