Authorities have extended Section 144 in Rawalpindi until January 1 due to security concerns and an imminent threat to law and order. The decision aims to prevent any untoward incident and maintain peace across the district.
According to a notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema, Section 144 has been in force in the district since December 25. On the recommendation of the District Intelligence Committee, the restriction has now been extended until January 1.
Under Section 144, all political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, meetings, and processions remain completely banned. In addition, motorcycle pillion riding, display of weapons, and use of loudspeakers have also been prohibited.
Sources said that on January 1, authorities will review the law and order situation and decide whether to further extend Section 144 or lift the restrictions.
