Rare Green Turtles Found Dead at Pasni Beach

Pasni: On the coastal shores of Pasni, Balochistan, two rare green sea turtles were found dead. According to preliminary reports, the turtles were spotted early in the morning on a sandy strip near the shore, and eyewitnesses believe they had likely been dead for several hours. No fresh wounds were visible on their bodies. However, marine life expert Zarif Baloch suggested that the deaths may have been caused by plastic pollution in the sea or entanglement in fishing nets. He emphasized that green turtles are classified as a rare and protected species, and Pasni’s coast is an important breeding ground for them.

Green Turtles Face Extinction Along Pakistan’s Coast

Zarif Baloch noted that continuous pollution, unsustainable fishing practices, and increasing human activities along the coastline are posing serious threats to these creatures. Environmental experts have warned that various species of turtles worldwide are rapidly approaching extinction. Pollution, destruction of coastal habitats, illegal hunting, and excessive plastic use have put turtle populations at serious risk. Sea turtles return to shores for breeding, but human activity and construction pressure are reducing safe nesting areas. Additionally, ingestion of plastic by turtles, mistaking it for food, is a major cause of death. Experts warn that turtle populations along Pakistan’s coast are declining, and without immediate intervention, several species could become completely extinct in the coming years.
