Former U.S. President Donald Trump has warned Iran that the United States could launch a “very powerful” attack if more protesters are killed during the ongoing demonstrations in the country.
The protests, driven by soaring inflation, a deep economic crisis, and the sharp collapse of the Iranian rial, have now entered their second week, intensifying tensions across Iran.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said the United States is closely monitoring the situation and will respond strongly if Iranian authorities continue to use force against protesters.
The demonstrations began on December 28 following a strike by shopkeepers in Tehran. According to official figures, at least 12 people, including security personnel, have been killed so far.
Analysts say these protests are among the largest and most intense Iran has seen in recent years, surpassing even the movement that erupted after the death of Mahsa Amini in 2022–2023.
