The President reiterated their determination to maintain the dignity of the workers and pay tribute to their historic struggle.
President Asif Ali Zardari further stated that May 1st is the day to strive for the rights of workers, their social security, fair wages, and a safe environment for work. This year’s International Workers’ Day theme is to ensure safety and health at the workplace during climate change. Faced with challenges such as unemployment and the adverse effects of climate change, steps should be taken to improve the conditions of the working class for decent wages, a safe working environment, health facilities, and educational facilities for the children of the workers.
Asif Zardari stressed that the state has an important role in ending the exploitation of workers, starting social security programs, and implementing policies for the protection of workers’ rights.
He hoped that the federal and provincial governments would play their role in protecting the rights of workers and bringing an end to exploitative practices. The President also acknowledged the services of their workers and emphasized the need to provide necessary training and safety equipment to workers working in dangerous environments.
