US President Donald Trump has claimed that negotiations aimed at ending the Russia–Ukraine war have entered their final stage. He made these remarks while hosting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at his private residence, Mar-a-Lago, in Florida.
Speaking to the media, President Trump said that the talks are at a decisive point, adding that either the war will come to an end or it may continue for a prolonged period, potentially costing millions more lives. He described the Russia–Ukraine conflict as the most difficult war he has dealt with but stressed that he remains determined to bring it to a conclusion.
Responding to questions about a deadline for an agreement, Trump clarified that no specific timeline has been set, stating that his sole priority is ending the war. He said both leaders want a deal and that following his meeting with President Zelenskyy, he plans to speak again with Russian President Vladimir Putin to advance the negotiations.
The US president further revealed that a strong security agreement is being prepared, in which European countries will play a key role. He noted that European nations are united in support of a peace deal and are actively cooperating in the process.
President Zelenskyy, speaking on the occasion, said that delegation-level talks over the past month have helped move discussions forward between Washington and Kyiv. He added that he would hold detailed talks with President Trump on a 20-point peace plan.
The meeting was followed by a closed-door session and a luncheon attended by senior officials from both the US and Ukrainian delegations.
