In order for students to fully benefit from the knowledge economy, President Asif Ali Zardari stressed on Wednesday the importance of creating “technology highways” throughout the nation. These roads would include improving students’ access to IT infrastructure, bolstering educational programmes, and providing them with cutting-edge skills. According to him, giving pupils laptops will improve their access to education, close the digital divide, and provide them the technological know-how they need to compete in both domestic and global employment markets.
According to a press statement from the President Zardari Secretariat Press Wing, the president discussed these opinions with Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, Vice Chancellor of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad, who paid him a visit at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The president was briefed by the vice chancellor on QAU’s role in offering high-quality education, its educational initiatives, and other administrative matters.
Speaking with the vice chancellor, the president stated that Pakistan had a wealth of human resources that should be used to their advantage by providing them with the most recent training and expertise. He emphasised that in order to assist Pakistan gain foreign cash, it was necessary for Pakistan to educate and train its human resources so that they could be exported to other nations that were experiencing a shortage of trained professionals.
According to the president, universities play a critical role in developing competent workers who can meet the demands of both domestic and global markets. He also emphasised the importance of concentrating on the recruitment of more professionals, including teachers, engineers, physicians, and nurses. The vice chancellor disclosed to the group that QAU was ranked 315th globally and was among the best universities in Pakistan.
He informed them that digitalization was the university’s top priority and that QAU was concentrating on research that might benefit society. In addition to emphasising the development of students’ character, the president called for additional improvements in educational quality and stated that QAU top rank holders should receive financial prizes as Presidential Awards to support their academic endeavours. The president expressed gratitude for QAU’s contribution to Pakistan’s academic community and gave the vice chancellor his word that he would assist in finding a solution to the university’s financial problems by bringing them up in the proper forum.
