President Asif Ali Zardari and the President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepen Pakistan–Iraq brotherly relations during a meeting held on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar.
According to the President Secretariat Press Wing, the two leaders discussed the full range of bilateral ties, focusing on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges. Both sides emphasized the importance of promoting business-to-business engagement and easing visa processes to enhance economic linkages.
President Zardari expressed appreciation for Iraq’s facilitation of Pakistani Zaireen (pilgrims) and acknowledged the valuable role of the Pakistani community in Iraq, describing them as a bridge of friendship between the two nations.
The leaders also exchanged views on regional peace, stability, and mutual cooperation. They agreed to maintain regular high-level contacts to further advance bilateral relations.
First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Qatar were also present during the meeting.
The Iraqi President renewed his invitation to President Zardari to visit Iraq, which the President accepted, stating that he would undertake the visit soon after the Iraqi parliamentary elections later this month.
