Passports will not be granted by Pakistan to its people who seek asylum abroad. In a letter, the Ministry of Interior stated that Pakistan passports would not be granted to any Pakistani nationals who, for any reason, obtain asylum abroad.
According to insiders, the decision was made with national security concerns in mind. According to sources, the passports of these citizens of the nation will be cancelled and will not be renewed.
Mohsin Naqvi, the federal interior minister, has given directives to the interior ministry. In accordance with the minister’s directives, the Passport Office wrote the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant authorities a letter stating this.
The Ministry of Interior has made the decision to refuse passport issuance to Pakistanis who have applied for asylum abroad, citing concerns for national security.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the ministry in Islamabad stated that any of these Pakistani nationals who apply for refuge abroad for any reason will not be permitted to obtain Pakistani passports.
All such Pakistanis would have their passports cancelled and will not be able to renew them, according to sources. About this, the Director General of Passports released an official announcement.
On Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s instruction, the government released the notification. Additionally, copies have been forwarded to all relevant officials in the Foreign Ministry. For political and other reasons, Pakistanis requesting asylum abroad will not be granted passports, according to the Ministry of Interior.
Regarding this, the ministry has written a letter to the appropriate ministries prohibiting them from providing these Pakistanis with travel documents. It further stated that individuals who have already received a passport will have it cancelled and not renewed. The letter states that the decision was made in order to guarantee national security.
