JI Agrees To Talks With Govt As Sit-In Enters Third Day

Jamaat-e-Islami’s sit-in in Rawalpindi and Islamabad has entered its third day. The delegation of the federal government and Jamaat-e-Islami have reached the commissioner’s office in Rawalpindi for negotiations.

The first round of negotiations will be held today on the 10-point demands.

Negotiations between the government and Jamaat-e-Islami have started, and the delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami and the government has reached the commissioner’s office in Rawalpindi.

The government delegation includes Federal Minister Atta Tarr, Owais Leghari, Tariq Fazl, Amir Moam, and Prime Minister’s Media Coordinator Badr Shehbaz, while the Jamaat-e-Islami delegation includes Liaquat Baloch, Amirul Azim, Syed Farast Shah and Nasrullah Randhawa.

In the 10 demands of Jamaat-e-Islami, it has been said that a 50% discount should be given on the electricity bills, termination of the contract with IPPSE, abolition of petroleum levy, and withdrawal of increase.

Withdrawal of tax on the salaried class, collect tax from a privileged class, reduce prices of essential commodities by 20%, cut non-developmental expenditure by 35%, and reduce taxes on agriculture and industries.

On reaching the commissioner’s office, the Federal Minister of Information said in a conversation with the media that after the talks with the leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, all things will be informed, there has been no change in the negotiation team from our side. Laghari is not present in the country, he has gone to China.

He said that he would sit and talk with the leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamaat-e-Islami has issues related to electricity, electricity consumers who use up to 200 units have already been given a subsidy of 50 billion rupees.

He said that the government is also starting solar projects, and diesel and oil plants will be closed.

Installation of solar tube wells will reduce electricity consumption, these measures aim to reduce electricity prices by generating cheap and quality electricity.

It should be noted that Jamaat-e-Islami is staging a sit-in at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi against expensive electricity. The participants spent the night outside Liaquat Bagh, after the Fajr prayer, the workers got busy in cleaning, and the participants had reached Liaquat Bagh due to rain.

Even the rain did not dampen the spirits of the participants on the third day of the sit-in. They took shelter in safe places during the rain and reached back to the venue as soon as it stopped.

Dharna management has made a container quarantine, breakfast is served with potato naan. The rain that started in the morning engulfed Murree Road.

The dharna participants took shelter in other safe places including Metropol, but the carpets and curtains left in the venue got wet. The previous small stage was now taken by the container.

Container sound systems and other equipment have been arranged for the addresses of the sit-in leaders. The participants are determined that whatever the weather or conditions may be, the sit-in will continue until the demands are met.

Late at night, Atta Tarar and Tariq Fazal met Hafiz Naeem and Liaquat Baloch.

On this occasion, in a special conversation with Aaj News, Atta Tarar had said that he had come to invite the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami for talks, Jamaat-e-Islami has formed a 4-member negotiation team under the leadership of Liaquat Baloch.

He said that the schedule of talks will be fixed in the talks and they will solve the problem by sitting.
