Govt Aims to Slash Electricity Rates by Rs 10 per Unit
Islamabad: The federal government is considering various measures to reduce electricity tariffs,through which an attempt is being made to make electricity cheaper by Rs 10 per unit.
According to sources, the government’s first option is to negotiate with IPPs (Independent Power Producers), which is expected to save Rs 411 billion, and this saving will be Rs 70 billion annually.
Changing the tariff of 8 Bagasse power plants will save Rs 238 billion,
The termination or modification of contracts with 16 more IPPs will result in a benefit of Rs 481 billion, the benefit of which will be passed on to consumers.
In addition, the government is also considering a proposal to extend the Winter Electricity Facilitation Package for cheaper electricity and reduce the burden of taxes on electricity bills, so that the public gets better convenience.
All these measures aim to lead the government towards making electricity cheaper by Rs 10 per unit, which will immediately benefit the public.
