The Joint Investigation Committee (JIT) formed to investigate the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) data theft scam has confirmed a major development. As per the report, the data of 2.7 lakh Pakistanis was stolen in the cyber incident that took place in March 2023. NADRA had requested the government for a JIT on October 30, 2023, to investigate the matter. The JIT, headed by FIA’s Waqaruddin Syed, included nominated officers of NADRA and other sensitive institutions.
The committee has submitted the investigation report to the Ministry of Interior. The report revealed that the data of citizens was stolen from NADRA between 2019 and 2023, and the NADRA offices of Multan, Peshawar, and Karachi were involved in the data leak scandal. Furthermore, the report stated that the data was transferred from Multan to Peshawar and then to Dubai. Evidence also showed that NADRA data was sold in Argentina and Romania.
