The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has issued a notice seeking an increase in electricity prices to Rs2.94 per unit for only one month. The increase is being requested by the CPPA for fuel price adjustment in March. The plea states that in March, 27.63 percent of electricity was produced from hydel, 10.74 percent from coal, and 20.67 percent from limited natural gases (LNG). Furthermore, 25.79 percent of electricity was produced from nuclear energy, while wind and solar energy contributed 2.55 percent and 1.37 percent, respectively. The total cost of electricity production amounts to Rs73 billion. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will be hearing the plea on April 26.
