A special committee of Parliament recommended Justice Yahya Afridi to be appointed as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan.
According to the details, the second meeting of the Special Parliamentary Committee regarding the appointment of the Chief Justice was held for one and a half hours, in which all the members except Tehreek-e-Insaaf participated.
The committee approved the appointment of Yahya Afridi as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan by a two-thirds majority and sent the name of Yahya Afridi to the Prime Minister for approval.
Earlier, the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee for the appointment of the new Chief Justice of Pakistan resumed after PTI’s refusal.
Three names were sent to the Parliamentary Committee by the Registrar Supreme Court for the appointment of the new Chief Justice of Pakistan. In which the most senior is Justice Mansoor and after him, the names of Justice Muneeb and Justice Yahya Afridi were included.
Along with this, a one-page short report was sent by the Supreme Court Registrar in which the judges’ brief profile, date of birth, education, and advocacy details, when they became judges. When became the Chief Justice of the High Courts, the date of appointment to the Supreme Court was also included.
