Lt Gen Muhammad Asim Malik has been appointed as the new chief of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) today.
According to sources, Lt Gen Asim Malik belongs to a military family, his father Ghulam Muhammad also served as Lt General, commonly known as General GM, and he has also been Corps Commander Rawalpindi.
Lieutenant General Asim Malik has commanded the Infantry Division in Balochistan and the Infantry Brigade in Waziristan.
Apart from this, he has also been posted as Chief Instructor at National Defense University (NDU) and Instructor at Command and Staff College Quetta.
Lieutenant General Asim Malik has also served in the Directorate of Military Operations before this.
Lt Gen Asim is also a graduate of Fort Leavenworth and the Royal College of Defense Studies, receiving the Sword of Honor in his course.
Lt Gen Asim Malik will assume his new charge as DGISI on September 30.
