10 Martyred in Kalat Attack: Police and Levies Personnel Among Victims

KALAT: In a tragic incident, at least 10 people, including police officers and Balochistan Levies personnel, were martyred in a gun attack in Kalat, according to police reports on Monday. Kalat Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dostin Dashti confirmed that the martyrs included a police sub-inspector, four Levies personnel, and five civilians.

The attackers fled the area after the assault, prompting law enforcement to launch a clearance operation. The exchange of fire between police and the armed assailants had continued since the previous night along Kalat’s national highway and within the city, according to police sources.

Kalat AC Aftab Ahmed and a Levies officers got injured in attack. Levies officials reported that the wounded personnel were taken to the hospital, where the assistant commissioner’s condition was declared stable.

Security sources revealed that terrorists had targeted multiple locations in Balochistan on the night of August 24-25. In retaliation, security forces engaged the attackers, killing 12 terrorists and injuring several others. The ongoing security operation aims to eliminate the remaining threats.

Railway Bridge Destroyed in Separate Attack

In a related incident, terrorists blew up a railway bridge in Bolan’s Dozan area, disrupting rail services between Punjab and Sindh. Local administration and railway authorities rushed to the scene to assess the damage, with Pakistan Railways confirming the suspension of services due to the destruction of the bridge. The Balochistan Government Spokesperson, Shahid Rind, indicated that it would take time to repair the bridge, suspecting that an explosive device had been used in the attack.

Levies Station Attacked, Vehicles and Records Torched

Armed men also attacked a Levies station in Mastung, setting vehicles and official records on fire. Levies sources confirmed that no personnel were harmed, and the station was retaken by security forces following the operation. The attackers managed to escape, although the body of an unidentified person was found near the station.

In response to the multiple attacks, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti convened an emergency meeting to address the security situation. The ongoing operations highlight the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism and restoring peace in the region.
