27% of Parents Refuse Vaccination for their Children

The ongoing polio vaccination campaign in Karachi encountered a significant challenge on its first day, with 27% of parents refusing to vaccinate their children. The campaign, which began on Saturday and will run until August 25, incorporates modern technology and offers both oral vaccinations and fractional doses of the inactivated polio vaccine (IPV).

The increasing number of refusals has raised serious concerns among health officials. In response, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed the Health Department to intensify efforts to ensure the campaign’s success. He stressed the importance of vaccinating every child, highlighting that polio is a dangerous disease that can have devastating lifelong consequences.

The Chief Minister urged parents and guardians to fully cooperate with health workers, emphasizing that there is no valid reason to refuse the vaccine. He also warned that action will be taken against those who do not comply with the vaccination campaign.
