Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting the development of Gilgit-Baltistan for overall economic growth. He chaired a meeting of the committee on the issues of Gilgit-Baltistan in Islamabad today.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam, Gilgit-Baltistan Finance Minister Muhammad Ismail, Agriculture Minister Mohammad Anwar, Ex-Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez Ur Rehman, Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan, Member WAPDA, and other officials from relevant Ministries. The Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan outlined the issues faced by the GB government, including insufficient fund allocations and delays in PSDP projects resulting in employee-related and other liabilities.
The Chief Secretary advocated for solar power projects to address the region’s growing energy needs and proposed initiatives for the digitization of land records and the expansion of airports to enhance tourism potential.
These proposals aim to modernize GB’s infrastructure and capitalize on its natural beauty, further contributing to the region’s economic development.
Muhammad Aurangzeb appreciated the well-thought-out proposals and emphasized the importance of reforming GB’s administrative and fiscal frameworks, highlighting that these reforms are vital for the welfare of the local population and the stimulation of tourism.
