Two More Taxes Imposed On The Citizens Of Karachi

Karachi: The City Council has approved resolutions to collect municipal utility charges and taxes from the residents of Shahr Quaid in electricity bills and to impose toll tax.

Two resolutions were passed in the Karachi City Council meeting, one of which was related to the implementation of toll tax. After the approval of this resolution, Karachi became the first city in the country where citizens will have to pay tax if they drive their vehicles on roads, flyovers, and underpasses.

A resolution regarding toll tax was suddenly introduced in the city council, which surprised the whole house. There was an uproar over it, but the resolution was passed.

The method of toll tax will be in such a way that when citizens register their vehicle, KMC will collect their toll tax, while if they pay annual motor vehicle tax, KMC will also have toll tax. No city in Pakistan has this tax.

Members of Jamaat-e-Islami and Tehreek-e-Insaaf strongly protested this tax, but it was approved. Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, explaining this, said that this toll tax will generate an annual income of Rs 70 crore to the Greater Karachi Municipality.

Similarly, the controversial municipal tax was also approved by the city council under which municipal utility charges and taxes will be collected from citizens through K-electric bills.
