This will result in an impact of Rs 80 billion on the exchequer. A 200% increase in medical and conveyance allowance has been proposed for employees of grades 1 to 18, but it is not yet clear how much increase will be approved.
According to Finance Ministry sources, employees up to grade 16 are getting Rs 1800 Conveyance Allowance and Rs 1500 Medical Allowance. Grade 17 and 18 officers are currently getting Rs 5000 Transportation Allowance. Government officers above grade 19 get money under the transport monetization policy.
It is proposed to increase this amount by 40 thousand to 60 thousand rupees For officers up to grade 20, monetization can be increased from Rs 65 thousand to Rs 1 lakh 5 thousand. The monetization policy of Rs 75 thousand for Grade 21 officers is being increased to Rs 1 lakh 20 thousand.
