Pakistan Voters Turnout in Elections 2024

More than 120 million eligible voters casted ballots on 8th Feb to choose representatives for the National and Provincial Assemblies in Pakistan’s historic 12th General Election. This election is historic because 17,758 candidates are running for 855 seats nationwide, the most ever recorded.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) reports that polling for the general elections were started at 8 a.m. and run continuously until 5 p.m. It is anticipated that 127,921,049 registered voters from all over the nation took part in the election.

Pakistan has set up 266,398 polling booths and 90,675 polling stations across the country in preparation for the general elections. The returning officer will announce the unofficial results for each constituency after more than 1.49 million election staff members have completed their work.

To encourage voter turnout, Thursday has been declared a national public holiday throughout the nation. Mobile Users across the country will be able to access the internet without any disruptions during the general elections, as confirmed by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

10,830,029 voters in Islamabad chosen representatives for three National Assembly seats, and 73,207,896 eligible voters in Punjab casted votes for representatives on 296 Punjab Assembly seats and 141 National Assembly seats.

26,994,769 people casted ballots in Sindh to choose representatives for 130 Sindh Assembly seats and 61 National Assembly seats. More than 9 million voters would have to cast ballots in Karachi, the biggest city in Pakistan, to choose representatives for 22 National Assembly seats and 47 Sindh Assembly seats.

Number of Balochistan 5,371,947 voters choose representatives for 16 National Assembly seats and 51 Balochistan Assembly seats, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa no. were 21,263,408 voters cast ballots for 44 National Assembly seats and 113 KPK Assembly seats.

5,113 candidates are running for the 365 seats in the National Assembly, 312 of whom are women. In addition, 12,645 candidates are running for the four provincial assemblies, 570 of whom are women.

Due to the passing of candidates, polls in the National Assembly constituencies for PK-22 Bajaur, PK-91 Kohat, PP-266 Rahim Yar Khan, and NA-8 Bajaur have been postponed.

These amendments intend to ensure law and order at the polling places; presiding officers have been empowered with magistrate first-class powers, whereas Pakistan Army provides security detail for 10 most vulnerable sites.

The army monitored the transportation of electoral materials from point to polling stations, tally and passage back or return at officers offices. Authorized observers and media representatives shall be the only ones permitted to enter inside each polling place for accountability purposes.

It is still not confirmed how many people casted votes but still some of independent sources are claiming 49% percent people casted vote in Pakistan.
