Pakistan’s tyre industry is poised for significant growth as a Chinese-backed joint venture, Service Long March Tyres (Pvt.) Ltd., announced an additional investment of $120 million to expand its operations in the country.The development was shared during a high-level meeting between Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Mr. Jin Yongsheng, Chairman of the company, along with his delegation. Federal Secretary of Commerce Jawad Paul and senior officials were also present. During the meeting, the company reaffirmed its confidence in Pakistan’s economic and industrial landscape, highlighting its export performance. The country now ranks as the fifth-largest exporter of tyres to the US and seventh-largest to Brazil—an impressive leap from minimal presence in these markets just a few years ago. This growth has been driven largely by technology transfer and technical collaboration with Chinese partners, enabling local manufacturers to meet international standards and compete effectively in global markets. Federal Minister Jam Kamal Khan acknowledged industry concerns and reiterated the government’s commitment to facilitating high-performing sectors. He emphasized the need for a balanced tariff regime that supports domestic production while maintaining global competitiveness. The minister further noted that the government is actively working to diversify Pakistan’s industrial base by promoting emerging sectors with strong export potential.The delegation highlighted the importance of Pakistan-China industrial cooperation, describing it as a cornerstone of the tyre sector’s rapid progress. The company’s manufacturing facility in Nooriabad was cited as a state-of-the-art unit, employing approximately 2,000 workers and integrating renewable energy solutions to ensure sustainable production.Both sides agreed to enhance coordination between the public and private sectors to accelerate export-led growth and industrial expansion.
