Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed a comprehensive plan to transform Islamabad into the country’s first Capital Smart City, integrating all urban services including Rescue 1122, traffic management, security, and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) into a centralized system.
Starting January 1, entry of vehicles without MTags will be restricted in Islamabad. Minister Naqvi visited the Safe City Headquarters to review the city monitoring system on digital walls, observe public safety measures using advanced technology, and inspect security surveillance at the Special Chinese Desk in the control room.
The Interior Minister emphasized accelerating work on the Capital Smart City project, stating it will serve as a model to make Islamabad the safest city in Pakistan. He added that the project’s scope will eventually be expanded nationwide and highlighted the critical need for reforms and effective use of technology.
The IG Islamabad Police provided a detailed briefing on the transition from Safe City to Capital Smart City and on the efficient use of cameras during Muharram to save time and resources. Federal Secretary Interior, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Additional Deputy Commissioner General, and other senior officials were also present.
