Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif warmly received the President of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Prabowo Subianto, at the Prime Minister House. Upon arrival, President Subianto was presented with a guard of honour as a mark of respect.
The two leaders held a tête-à-tête meeting, followed by delegation-level talks. The discussions were attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff & Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, cabinet ministers, and senior officials.
Both leaders reviewed bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen cooperation across political, diplomatic, economic, trade, defense, security, health, education, science, technology, agriculture, and environmental sectors. They agreed to elevate the historic bilateral relations to a dynamic partnership.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction with the growing bilateral trade and agreed to review the Indonesia-Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement (IP-PTA) to further increase trade volume, currently around USD 4 billion. Both sides emphasized expanding cooperation in halal industry, agricultural commodities, IT, and technical & vocational education.
The leaders also agreed to enhance collaboration in investments and joint ventures through the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and Indonesia’s Sovereign Wealth Fund (Danantara).
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated President Subianto’s welfare initiatives, including the “Free Nutritious Meal Program,” and Pakistan agreed to explore health-sector cooperation through the exchange of medical professionals, mutual recognition of qualifications, and specialized training.
They also exchanged views on regional and global issues, including Kashmir and Gaza, reaffirming their commitment to peaceful resolutions in line with UN resolutions and human rights protection. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated Indonesia’s diplomatic and humanitarian efforts in Gaza.
Both leaders recognized strong cooperation at multilateral forums, including the UN, OIC, and D-8. Prime Minister congratulated Indonesia on assuming the D-8 Chair and assured full Pakistani support.
The visit included the signing of MoUs and agreements in multiple sectors, and a luncheon hosted by the Prime Minister in honour of President Subianto and his delegation. The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Indonesia.
