Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the government is taking practical steps to ensure export-led economic growth, adding that business figures and investors are the backbone of the national economy and deserve full respect and support.
He stated this while chairing a meeting of the Tax Reforms Working Group comprising private-sector experts and leading business personalities in Islamabad. The meeting reviewed proposals aimed at improving the tax system, enhancing the ease of doing business, and boosting national exports.
The Prime Minister emphasized that long-term reforms are essential to make the business environment more competitive, transparent, and growth-oriented. “A strong business sector leads to higher tax revenue,” he said, adding that since day one the government has been focused on strengthening export-based economic progress.
Business representatives thanked the Prime Minister for abolishing the Export Development Surcharge during the previous meeting. During the session, a comparative review of tax rates across corporate and other sectors was also presented.
Appreciating the comprehensive recommendations submitted by the working groups, the Prime Minister announced that a committee headed by the Minister for Finance is being formed to convert these proposals into actionable measures. The committee will soon submit a practical roadmap.
Federal ministers, advisers, senior government officials, and the Chairman of the Working Group along with other members attended the meeting.
