Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that freedom of expression does not mean spreading false information, adding that a strict nationwide crackdown on fake news is now being launched.
Speaking to the media, Mohsin Naqvi stated that the repatriation of illegal Afghan nationals living across the country will be ensured under all circumstances. He said that recent terror attacks were carried out by individuals identified as Afghan citizens, including the three attackers involved in the FC incident and the Islamabad district court attack.
He warned that any Afghan national who returns to Pakistan after being deported will be arrested and punished according to the law. He added that the process of shutting down Afghan camps in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also begun.
Mohsin Naqvi said no province is allowed to adopt its own policy on matters of national security, as such decisions are made only under a unified national strategy.
Responding to the spread of misinformation on social media, he said that 90% of the news circulating online is fake, and strict action will now be taken against those responsible. He also said that no one will be allowed to defame others on social media, and no compromise will be made on national security.
Regarding individuals living abroad, Mohsin Naqvi said they will also be brought back to Pakistan soon so they can face legal proceedings and respond to their statements.
