A powerful storm, Cyclone Dattawah, and heavy rainfall have caused widespread destruction in Sri Lanka, prompting the Pakistan Navy to launch immediate relief operations. The Pakistan Navy ship PNS Saif was docked at Colombo Port for the International Fleet Review 2025 when the cyclone struck the coastal areas.
According to the Navy spokesperson, PNS Saif handed over relief supplies including food items, ready-to-eat meals (MREs), dry rations, first aid kits, emergency medicines, and essential equipment to Sri Lankan authorities to support ongoing rescue efforts and assist displaced families. The Pakistan Navy confirmed that additional assistance will be provided as required by the situation.
The statement added that this swift response reflects Pakistan’s commitment to fulfilling international humanitarian responsibilities, promoting regional peace, and standing in solidarity with friendly nations during hardships.
Meanwhile, on the directives of the Prime Minister, NDMA has completed preparations to dispatch the first relief consignment and a 45-member Pakistan Army Urban Search and Rescue Team to Sri Lanka. The initial consignment of 100 tons of relief goods will be sent from Noor Khan Airbase via a C-130 aircraft. The supplies include rescue boats, pumps, life jackets, tents, blankets, milk, food items, medicines, and mobile field hospitals.
Pakistan has reaffirmed that it will continue to deliver humanitarian assistance to support Sri Lanka’s flood-affected population.
