Pakistan Also Ready to Acquire Western Weapons: DG ISPR

Islamabad:  Pakistan has praised the performance of Chinese-made modern weapons, stating that they demonstrated outstanding efficiency during a four-day clash with India in May. In an interview with international news agency Bloomberg, Pakistan Army spokesperson Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said, “Chinese weapons have proven to be extremely effective in recent engagements; however, Pakistan is also open to acquiring advanced defense technologies from Western countries.” According to sources, Pakistan fully deployed Chinese-built J-10C fighter jets and other advanced systems for the first time during the May skirmish. These jets reportedly shot down multiple Indian Air Force aircraft, including French-made Rafales. ISPR confirmed that Pakistan has so far downed seven Indian aircraft — previously, six were officially confirmed. Interestingly, former U.S. President Donald Trump also acknowledged this claim during a speech in Virginia. DG ISPR stated that no Pakistani aircraft were lost in the engagement and emphasized that Pakistan never exaggerates figures. He added that Pakistan has also inducted China’s Z-10ME attack helicopters into its fleet — the same model used along the China-India border. General Ahmed Sharif highlighted that Pakistan’s defense strategy remains focused on reliable, cost-effective, and efficient systems. He clarified that Pakistan is not engaged in any arms race with India. According to data, Pakistan’s defense budget last year stood at $10.2 billion, while India spent $86.1 billion. However, in terms of GDP, both countries’ defense spending was nearly proportional — Pakistan at 2.7% and India at 2.3%.
