Heavy Rain Lashes Various Cities Of Punjab

Lahore: Heavy rain, thunder, and strong winds have once again lashed Punjab, breaking the spell of heat and humidity but disrupting daily life across the province. In Lahore, Sahiwal, Vehari, Pir Mahal, Chichawatni, Jaranwala, Okara, Shujabad, Burewala, Pattoki, Nankana Sahib, and several other cities, intermittent downpours have turned the weather pleasant, though many low-lying areas remain submerged under rainwater. Due to the torrential rains, dozens of electricity feeders tripped in various cities, plunging several areas into darkness. In Vehari, Chichawatni, and Pattoki, business activities came to a halt amid prolonged power outages, while residents voiced strong criticism over the poor performance of municipal authorities in draining rainwater. Traffic jams were reported in several parts of Lahore as roads turned into water channels, while in Shujabad and Pir Mahal, flash floods in streams and drains led to water entering homes. According to the Meteorological Department, this spell is part of the final phase of the monsoon season and is expected to continue intermittently for the next 24 to 48 hours. More rainfall has been forecast for the Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, and Bahawalpur divisions in the coming two days. Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise caution near electrical installations. While the rainfall has brought much-needed relief from the heat, power outages, traffic jams, and drainage failures have once again raised serious questions about the efficiency of the city administration.
