Quetta: Green Bus Staff Threatened, Key Snatched by Local Drivers

On Zarghoon Road, local bus drivers allegedly assaulted the staff of the Green Bus Service and snatched the bus key. Eyewitnesses reported that the drivers threatened the Green Bus driver and staff, even warning of setting the bus on fire. Passengers on board were also harassed during the incident. This is not the first time such an attack has taken place; previously, Green Buses had been targeted by the local bus administration and their windows smashed. Upon receiving information, police, traffic police, and district administration reached the spot, while one local bus was seized and impounded. Attack on Green Bus Service is an Attack on Public Rights: Transport Secretary Following the incident of misbehavior and assault on the Green Bus staff, Balochistan’s Secretary Transport, Muhammad Hayat Khan Kakar, announced strict legal action against those involved. He said the snatching of the bus key, threats, and misbehavior with the staff were highly regrettable and intolerable acts. The Secretary Transport further stated that the Green Bus project was launched purely for public convenience, and any attack on it would be considered an attack on the rights of the people. He confirmed that the district administration had been informed immediately, and instructions were issued for action against the responsible transporters. He added that an FIR would be registered against those involved, based on the driver’s complaint. Kakar assured that the security of the Green Bus Service would be ensured and warned that no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands. He also cautioned transport unions to stay within their limit; otherwise, strict action would follow. Public circles and civic organizations have also demanded complete protection for the Green Bus Service.
