Karachi Rain Update: 5 Dead as Urban Flooding Paralyzes City

Since Tuesday morning, heavy rainfall has lashed Karachi, triggering urban flooding and plunging the city into chaos. At least five people have lost their lives, while two others were injured in rain-related incidents.

In Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 12, a house wall collapsed, killing four members of a family, including women and children, while another child died in Orangi Town after a wall caved in.

The downpour also knocked out over 600 power feeders, plunging large parts of the city into darkness. In Gulshan-e-Hadeed, rainwater entered houses, leaving residents stranded. Roads across the city turned into rivers, disrupting traffic flow.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab declared a rain emergency, canceling all staff holidays in essential departments and directing teams to remain on standby. The Sindh government, citing the situation, has also ordered the closure of schools on Wednesday.

Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah has put the district administration, PDMA, Rescue 1122, and the health department on high alert. Police officials have been ordered to ensure drainage of water, maintain traffic flow, and provide immediate assistance in emergencies.

According to the Meteorological Department, intermittent showers are expected throughout the day. Saadi Town recorded the heaviest rainfall at 35.8 mm, followed by Gulshan-e-Maymar with 33.3 mm and Nazimabad with 26 mm.

Other parts of Sindh, including Tharparkar, Umerkot, Matiari, Thatta, Hyderabad, Badin, Dadu, Khairpur, Larkana, Sukkur, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Islamkot, Nangarparkar, and Mirpurkhas, are also expected to receive more rain accompanied by thunderstorms.
