670 Dead 25,000 Rescued in Monsoon Floods: NDMA

Islamabad: Chairman NDMA, while briefing the media along with the Federal Minister for Information and DG ISPR, said that during the recent monsoon rains and flash floods, 670 people lost their lives, while joint rescue operations saved more than 25,000 people. According to the NDMA Chairman, search and rescue teams are actively engaged in locating missing persons and assisting those stranded. DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif informed that the infrastructure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) was severely damaged, with 90 roads destroyed and several bridges swept away. Army engineering battalions have been deployed in KP and Gilgit-Baltistan to reopen roads and rebuild damaged bridges. He added that, under the directives of Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, additional units were mobilized, while medical camps in Buner and Shangla have treated over 6,000 injured people so far. Medical teams from CMH Rawalpindi have also been dispatched to the flood-hit regions. DG ISPR further stated that food supplies are being delivered to flood victims through Army helicopters and road convoys, and that one day’s Army ration was dedicated to support the affected communities. Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar said that a state-of-the-art disaster management system was set up to deal with the situation. From the very first day, provinces and concerned institutions were being provided with accurate information. He added that the Prime Minister has directed that all institutions and provinces must work together in this national crisis.
