The Awam Express traveling from Peshawar to Karachi met with an accident near Lodhran. In the incident, two coaches derailed, and three bogies, including a luggage van, overturned.
According to rescue sources, one passenger was killed, while 21 others were injured. Two of the injured, in critical condition, were shifted to Bahawalpur Hospital. The remaining injured are receiving medical treatment at the DHQ Hospital in Lodhran.
The Divisional Superintendent of Multan and the medical team have reached the accident site and are actively involved in rescue operations.
Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, took notice of the accident, expressing sorrow over the loss of life and praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. He directed that all possible medical facilities be provided to the affected passengers.
Authorities stated that passengers of the affected train are being transported to their destinations via an alternative train, and no reports of disruption have been received from other trains.
The Railway Minister also instructed that rescue operations be completed promptly and the down track restored. He has ordered an inquiry into the accident, with a report to be submitted within seven days.
