Federal Government Rejects Balochistan’s Plan to Provide 100 Green Buses for Quetta

The federal government has rejected the Balochistan government’s plan to provide 100 green buses for Quetta city. The purpose of the plan was to offer better and dignified transportation facilities to the residents of the provincial capital.

According to official sources, the Balochistan government had proposed in the federal budget 2025-26 to provide 100 green buses for Quetta to improve the public transport sector in the city. Initially, the plan was limited to 25 buses by the Planning Commission, but later it was completely cancelled in the CDWP (Central Development Working Party) meeting.

Currently, the provincial government, under a public-private partnership, operates 8 green buses on the route from Balochistan University to Baleli, charging a fare of only 40 rupees per passenger. This service is available on a limited scale, while the city urgently needs a comprehensive and integrated mass transit system.

Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rand reacted to the situation by saying that although the plan has been rejected for now, it will be raised again at the federal level. He added that providing green buses in Quetta is among the top priorities of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti.

Shahid Rand further stated that even if full approval is not received from the federal government, the provincial government will try to provide as many buses as possible within its means. He emphasized that including or excluding a proposal in the budget is the prerogative of the federal government and this decision should not be viewed negatively. He expressed hope that a suitable solution will emerge through further dialogue with the federal government.
