Trump Pushes for Urgent Talks with Iran Amid Rising Tensions
US President Donald Trump has instructed his team to try to meet Iranian officials immediately to reduce the ongoing tension between Iran and Israel. This was revealed by a senior US official and sources to the international media.
According to foreign news agencies, Trump is assessing whether Tehran really wants to negotiate seriously or not.
Since Israel’s missile attacks on Iran last week, the US president has consistently maintained that Iran should pursue a diplomatic path with the US.
During the G7 summit, Trump informed European leaders that talks for a ceasefire are ongoing and that he wants US officials to meet with their Iranian counterparts this week.
Although no final meeting has been scheduled yet, according to US officials, there are positive signals from both sides to reduce tensions.
Trump told reporters: “I think Iran is at the negotiating table, they want to make a deal.”
It was later announced that Trump was returning to Washington ahead of the G7 summit to directly monitor the Iran-Israel conflict.
When asked if the talks failed, would the US join Israel in targeting Iran’s nuclear assets? He avoided giving a clear answer.
On the other hand, White House spokesman Alex Pfeiffer clarified that US forces are in a defensive position and no military action against Iran is currently being considered.
