Govt To Launch New Electricity Trading System
The federal government has decided to introduce a new electricity market under which a system of buying and selling electricity will be started.
The meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Power was held under the chairmanship of Senator Mohsin Aziz. The Secretary Power Division said that the government will introduce an electricity market.
Under this system, a system of buying and selling electricity will be started. The implementation of this system will be started this year.
The Secretary of Power said that at present, all the electricity is purchased by CPPA, which is then sold to the DISCOs.
This method creates problems. The ISMO institution will be established by merging NTDC and CPPA. The ISMO institution will act as a regulator.
The Secretary of Power said that these are all power sector reforms that are being implemented. The government will privatize the Gencos and DISCOs.
NTDC will be divided into three companies. A subsidiary of NTDC will look after energy infrastructure.
Senator Shibli Faraz said that NTDC has been run without a permanent head for the past several years, now it has been decided to divide it based on the performance of the institution,
The institution was never given the authority to plan and implement projects, now how can we believe that your steps will improve now?
Senator Mohsin Aziz said that what the benefit of dividing WAPDA into two parts, the Secretary Power said that I am new to this ministry,
I also do not know about the old decisions, now we have planned for new projects in which special care is being taken of electricity tariff.
Mohsin Aziz said that institutions are created but then merit is not taken into account in staff and leadership.
Secretary Power said that Dr. Fayyaz Chaudhry has been appointed as the head of the NTDC Board, all reorganizations are being done in consultation with the NTDC Board,
Now the ten-year plan of transmission is being prepared based on the ten-year plan of generation.
Shibli Faraz said that the committee should also take a briefing from the NTDC Board, there is a huge lack of planning in all ministries, when something is destroyed, they say let’s rebrand it.
