Concrete Steps Should Be Taken To Prevent Electricity Theft: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the electricity distribution companies to complete installing smart meters as soon as possible and said that overbilling is unacceptable under any circumstances, and strict action should be taken against those involved in overbilling.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a review meeting on the performance of electricity distribution companies, during which the issues of Lahore Electric Supply Company, Peshawar Electric Supply Company, and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company were discussed.

The meeting was given a detailed briefing on the performance of LESCO, PESC, and FESCO.

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the work of installing smart meters should be completed as soon as possible so that transparency can be brought into the billing system, overbilling is not acceptable in any way. Strict action will be taken against the officers involved.

He said that concrete steps should be taken to prevent electricity theft.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister expressed concern over the slowness in the appointment of Chief Executive Officers of electricity distribution companies and directed that the appointment of Chief Executive Officers of electricity distribution companies should be completed as soon as possible through a highly transparent process.

Shahbaz Sharif said that manpower recruitment in electricity distribution companies should be done on merit, and all resources should be utilized to meet the target given by NEPRA.
