World Bank Steps In! Can Pakistan Meet Global Quality Standards?
Islamabad: An important meeting of the National Compliance Center (NCC) on National Quality Infrastructure (NQI) was held under the chairmanship of Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, in which detailed discussions were held on improving the country’s trade standards and competition system.
In the meeting, Dr. Nabil Amin, Head of NCC, briefed the Commerce Minister on the performance of the institution and reviewed the recent visit of the World Bank mission.
The mission aimed to make suggestions to bring Pakistan’s National Quality Infrastructure to international standards.
The Commerce Minister, while emphasizing further improvement of Pakistan’s quality and compliance system, directed the NCC to develop a new strategy that would enhance trade standards at the domestic and international levels.
It was decided in the meeting that an important meeting of the National Compliance Advisory Council (NCAC) would be convened in mid-April,
where steps to further strengthen Pakistan’s export standards would be considered.
With the support of the World Bank, it was agreed to adapt the National Quality Infrastructure in Pakistan to international standards so that domestic products can more effectively make their place in the global market.
