Why are internet services disrupted across the country?

Internet services across various cities of Pakistan have been facing continuous disruptions, causing serious inconvenience to users. According to citizens, data services have not only slowed down over the past several days but have also been completely unavailable in some areas. Users from major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, and Islamabad, have reported that activities such as file uploads, video calls, and online classes are being severely affected. Residents of Karachi’s Old City Area and Court Road stated that in some places, the network remains completely down, while even in upscale areas, data transfer through Wi-Fi has become difficult. In Peshawar, people complained about frequent internet disconnections affecting online work and educational activities. The situation is reportedly similar in Quetta’s Brewery Road and A-One City, as well as Islamabad’s PWD, Media Town, and Bahria Town. In Lahore, especially in Model Town, prolonged internet outages have caused significant inconvenience to users. According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), during the third quarter of 2025, mobile company services were reviewed in several cities. The report stated that although overall internet speed remained satisfactory, several areas experienced call drops, voice delays, and weak signals. The PTA has directed all mobile operators to immediately resolve these issues and ensure improved network coverage, faster internet, and clearer voice services. The authority also assured that monitoring will continue to ensure the delivery of high-quality service. Telecom experts cited network overload, outdated infrastructure, fiber line repairs, and power faults as major reasons behind the interruptions. They urged the government and network companies to upgrade data infrastructure immediately and mobilize field teams to ensure users receive stable and high-speed internet connectivity across the country.
