Complaints of WhatsApp and Instagram being slow across Pakistan

On August 10, users across Pakistan complained of slow WhatsApp and Instagram speeds.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has not issued any statement on the slowdown of other applications or internet services, including WhatsApp and Instagram, in the country.
However, people on social media appeared to be complaining about problems in using the applications.
Overall, there were no complaints of service down of other applications including WhatsApp and Instagram across the country, however, users complained of slow service of WhatsApp and Instagram.
According to Down Detector, an organization that monitors Internet speed and services, users of major cities of the country, including Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, and other cities, complained about the slow speed of WhatsApp and Instagram.
According to the organization, some people also complained about the service being down for both applications.
However, most people reported that both applications are slow and messages are not being sent or received properly.
Authorities have not revealed many details about installing national firewalls to enhance their ability to block dangerous content and improve cybersecurity. While the firewall aims to boost national security and data protection, experts have expressed concerns about its potential use for internet censorship and privacy issues. Moreover, people have linked disruptions with the firewall.
