USEFP Denies Fulbright Programme Termination for Pakistani Students

The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) has officially denied reports circulating about the supposed termination of the Fulbright Programme, assuring the public that the programme remains fully operational for Pakistani students.

In a statement issued on Friday, USEFP addressed these misleading claims and emphasized that several US government-funded exchange programmes, including the prestigious Fulbright Programme, continue to offer invaluable opportunities for Pakistani students. The statement reassured current and prospective participants by affirming that Fulbright students studying in the United States would continue to receive their stipends, as the programme remains unaffected by the recent termination of another exchange initiative, the Global Undergraduate Exchange Programme (Global UGRAD).

“Fulbright participants in the United States are still receiving their stipends,” the USEFP statement clarified. “There has been no termination of the Fulbright Programme, and claims that students may be stranded or left without financial support are untrue.”

The USEFP’s response comes in the wake of recent news regarding the end of the Global UGRAD Programme, a long-standing exchange opportunity that had been operational in Pakistan for 15 years. While the termination of Global UGRAD has been confirmed, it does not impact other programmes like Fulbright, which has a robust and lasting presence in Pakistan. The Fulbright Programme offers extensive funding opportunities for Pakistani students, covering Master’s and PhD-level studies at leading US institutions. Additionally, the programme offers a Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship (FLTA) fellowship that provides opportunities for language specialists to contribute to academic exchanges.

The statement by USEFP stressed that there are no changes to the status of students currently enrolled in the Global UGRAD programme, offering reassurance to those continuing their studies abroad. The Foundation clarified that their commitment to facilitating academic exchanges remains steadfast, ensuring that students in the Fulbright Programme will continue to benefit from the support and financial backing that they have been promised.

As one of the most well-established international exchange platforms, the Fulbright Programme continues to hold significant value for students seeking higher education in the United States. With its focus on empowering talented individuals from Pakistan, the programme offers invaluable experiences and academic advancements in diverse fields of study.

For Pakistani students, this reaffirms that there are still ample opportunities for pursuing higher education in the United States through the Fulbright Programme. The initiative is a key pillar in the long-standing educational exchange between Pakistan and the US, providing critical academic funding and facilitating knowledge exchange between the two nations.

In conclusion, USEFP’s assurance to the public demonstrates the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to supporting Pakistani students who wish to study in the United States through its array of educational exchange programmes. Despite the termination of Global UGRAD, the Fulbright Programme remains a cornerstone of academic collaboration, helping Pakistani students advance their academic careers with continued financial support.
