Unregistered Vpns Declared A Threat To National Security

Government authorities have declared unregistered VPNs a serious threat to national security, urging citizens to immediately stop using any non‑registered VPN services.

According to officials, terrorists, foreign agents, criminal networks and extremist groups are extensively using illegal VPNs to hide their identity, plan attacks, spread propaganda, and conduct unlawful activities online — putting every citizen at risk.

IT experts warn that most unregistered or free VPNs are unsafe and are secretly stealing users’ data. These VPNs often log your usernames, passwords, bank details, and personal information, and many are controlled by hackers, foreign entities, or criminal networks.
“These free services run at the cost of your privacy,” experts said.

Authorities added that illegal VPNs not only endanger users but also cause financial damage to Pakistan. By bypassing legal gateways, billions of rupees in taxes and fees are diverted abroad, reducing national revenue and slowing internet speed for everyone.

Officials strongly advised the public to use only PTA‑approved and registered VPNs to stay protected and to safeguard Pakistan’s digital security.
