U.S. Travel Ban Shocks the World
Washington: US President Donald Trump has banned citizens of 12 countries from entering the United States to protect American citizens and interests from possible terrorist threats.
According to a foreign news agency, President Trump has signed a new executive order under which citizens of Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen will no longer be able to travel to the United States.
A statement issued by the White House said that this step has been taken to protect the American people from potentially dangerous foreign elements.
President Trump said in a video message that the recent attack in Colorado is proof that undocumented foreigners can pose a major threat to the United States.
The gunman, who shouted “Free Palestine” during the attack on a pro-Israel rally in Colorado, was later arrested with injuries. Authorities say the gunman entered the United States illegally.
In addition, the Trump administration has imposed restrictions on visas for foreign students studying at American universities, including Harvard University, in what is being seen as a major shift in immigration policy.
Experts say the new restrictions could limit travel, education, and employment opportunities in the United States for citizens of the countries in question.
