U.S. Newspaper Acknowledges Pakistan Army’s Defense Capabilities

Washington: In a recent editorial, the American newspaper The Washington Post acknowledged that Pakistan’s successful downing of Indian fighter jets demonstrates its full capability to retaliate and inflict damage when necessary.

The editorial warned that if nuclear-armed neighbors like Pakistan and India fail to engage in dialogue, the situation could escalate into a dangerous crisis.

Highlighting the recent tensions, the paper noted that this marks the first time since 1971 that India launched an attack inside Punjab, to which Pakistan responded by shooting down several Indian fighter jets within their own airspace — a clear display of Pakistan’s defensive strength and deterrence.

According to The Washington Post, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is making efforts to mediate between the two countries, urging restraint and the pursuit of diplomacy. The editorial further advised that both nations should seek an honorable exit from the crisis by claiming strategic success rather than escalating conflict.

The piece also noted that Pakistan could benefit from the diplomatic support of friendly nations like China in shaping its narrative. It suggested that India could consider reinstating the suspended Indus Waters Treaty post-Pahalgam attack, and in return, Pakistan might take reciprocal constructive steps.

Furthermore, the paper recommended the restoration of backchannel diplomatic and military communication to prevent further escalation.
